In 2007, at the request of the Missionary Benedictine Congregation at St. Joseph's Mission Hospital in Peramiho / Tanzania, a Pathology Laboratory was established. St. Joseph's Mission Hospital is a referral hospital serving the Ruvuma Province. After multiple reorganization because of personnel turnover, the laboratory is currently working very well and has so far examined 5,300 cases. At present cooperation with a private institute in Arusha is established. From 2019 the laboratory will be run by a local pathologist (T.Q.). From 2008 to 2010, the Department of Pathology at the Mbea Referral Hospital was organized as part of collaboration with the Tropical Institute of the LMU Munich and handed over in 2010 to two Tanzanian pathologists. In 2010, a Department of Telecytopathology was established in Mbalisi Hospital, which was abandoned after medical personnel change. In 2016, a laboratory for cytopathology was set up at St. Benedict Hospital in Ndanda under the direction of the Missionary Benedictines, which sent about 60 cases to IPath by 2017.
